A listening ear
Erminia, known as Anna, is in her 90s. She lives in Sheltered Accommodation in Sandwell and has carers who visit her four times a day to do the practical things like getting her dressed. She is also well–supported by her family who spend one day a week with her.
However, she was feeling increasingly lonely and bored after a day centre she was going to two to three times a week could no longer accommodate her.
Fortunately, Agewell was able to step in to provide some company for Anna, visiting her every week for 10 weeks. Befriender Dawn explains: “We’d have a chat and put the world to rights. I took Anna out in her wheelchair – sometimes shopping at Merry Hill where we’d have a bit of lunch. I helped help her buy things she wanted to purchase for her family, like birthday cards and presents.
“We also had a great day out at the Irish Church in Perry Barr to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.”
