Funding Success for Continued Dementia Support in Sandwell
We are delighted to announce that Agewell has been successful in securing National Lottery funding for three years for a new project which will provide support for people with dementia and their carers.
This new project, entitled Thinking Differently About Dementia, will enable Agewell to set up two ‘Meeting Centres’ in Sandwell, joining the growing number of organisations involved with the 'Meeting Centres' rollout programme and learning network led by the Association for Dementia Studies at Worcester University.
Alongside the 'Meeting Centres', the project will offer activity groups, 1-1 befriending, social opportunities in arts venues and community spaces, and carers education.
“Over the past few years, we’ve been involved in the delivery of highly successful specialist dementia services including Kingfisher Buddies and the Sandwell Dementia Navigator service,” explained Agewell CEO Deb Harrold. “This new project will enable our work to continue, and we are all excited to get started.”
The Big Lottery grant will also support a raft of initiatives addressing digital inclusion, equipping families affected by dementia with the skills and wherewithal to get online and benefit from music and activity programmes delivered on zoom.
Plus, we will be working with Zoe Harris, founder of Mycarematters 2020 CIC to develop a Sandwell bespoke version of 'My Future Care Handbook', encouraging families to prepare for the inevitable changes that unfold following a diagnosis of dementia.
